For promised joy.
Armed with all my paperwork, photographs, etc., I visited the passport office this morning.
The man at counter #8 (today) took a quick look and said, yes, he would issue an extension until 25 March. The hotel had produced very good, typed paperwork, but got the dates wrong by a month. So I'll have to go back another day. I need until 23 April. Maybe I should learn to read a bit more Arabic?
C'est la vie!
So I returned this morning with everything that I needed.
Completed application form
photocopies of main passport page and entry visa page
receipt from the hotel for 6 months
paper from hotel detailing exact dates of my stay, with the official hotel (in duplicate)
copy of hotel's certificate that it is registered for taxation (i.e. licensed)
Everything was accepted, and I paid my 555 EGP + 15 EGP at the cash desk.
"come back at 2pm"
So I returned at 2pm and there was nobody waiting. Not a good sign.
The fax machine was broken so they could not get the approval fax from Cairo.
"Come back tomorrow at 1pm." The man seemed genuinely apologetic.
And he will phone me first to avoid a wasted journey.
I was not the worst off: someone on his list had come from Aswan for a visa extension.
Only in Egypt.
I need a Stella!
