Exchange rates

Post by crewmeal »

I'm off to Luxor next week and wondering what the rate for Egyptian pounds is these days. I always change my money at the airport never in the UK.

For info there is an article in the Daily Mail about the declining service of British Airways, but lower down the page it gives tourist rates and a buy now option. A complete rip off in my view.

About 23.3le to the BP Crewmeal, think you are better changing your money at the bank rather than the airport.

Stupid rates over here - 16 to £1 (if you can get them)

I hope that it plummets down back to normalish rates, 11Le -£ from the 29th August until the 1st of September then I will not have to pay over double for my new laptop.

Are you some kind of masochist?

Don't anticipate any change in the EGP price of a laptop, even if the currency were to recover.

And if you have to raid any GBP savings to pay for it, it'll cost you twice as much as it would today.

I thought Laptops were obsolete these days ?

Tablets seem to be where its at nowadays you Luddites !

I bought my Missus the Asus Zen pad 10.1 , it comes with a detachable magnetic keyboard for those die hard laptop fans...
but I saved 15 quid and decided not to get the keyboard... 8)

I know, I'm really confusing myself with this one. :P My point being, if I use the Le I have stashed in a deep hole, which was bought at a lower price, them I would lose x amount due to the higher exchange rates, which my friends would want. But, due to a future plan I have on the boil in my cranium, I don't want to use £. :?

Let's suppose the current price of the laptop you have your eye on in your Luxor dealers shop is 6000LE.

By some miracle, the exchange rate drops next week by half.

You think the dealer will mark his price down to 3000LE?

Dream on  Even though he's trying to sell at way over the (then) US$ price, he'll hope for some mug to drop by.

Of course your LE stash will then be worth more in GBP/US$....which will be nice if you ever need to buy something priced in GBP/US$....such as your airfares for the periodic visa run ;)

Anyway...all pretty academic really as the exchange rate ain't going anywhere soon.

It would be very advantageous for the visa runs or just a holiday as hopefully you will see on Monday.

Hope all goes well Dusak, enjoy your short break. I intend going to Turkey next summer, the heat the heat, for a couple of months if your visa run coincides with my visit you are more than welcome to stay with me.

Well I have to say, that's the best offer I've EVER received on here. You may regret that offer, although I'm fully house trained. :rs
