Egypt trip part 1

Post by denisegr » Thu Jul 06, 2017 10:05 pm

I recently had the joy of returning to Egypt for the 15th time, the flight from Heathrow was comfortable and only about a third full. We landed at Cairo and a short while later boarded a packed plane to luxor arriving around 11.30 pm. Before long we were on the road to the viking dock to our boat The sonesta star goddess. The boat is suites only all with balconys which was a first for me a decent sized sitting area with settee, table and a desk and chair plenty of room for storage etc. The bedroom area was divided off by a wall which had a flat screen tv which could be turned around to face either way. There was a small bathroom with bath/shower also tea /coffee making facilities which was replenished every day.The top deck had the best pool from the 6/7 boats ive been on the food was good with buffet breakfast/lunch and a 5 course evening meal with menu choice bettered only by the sonesta st George and the suite definitely topped all previous boats. The guests were a mix of American, spanish Japanese with ourselves being the only English on board.i woukd guess the occupancy rate was about 50% which was evident when it came to the entertainment which was poorly attended on th plus side most of the time my friend and i had the top deck to ourselves. The boat was a little worn around the edges if you looked closely but comfortable, plenty of staff who couldnt do enough. I really want to return next year (need to speak to the husband ☺). Having a balcony meant i was up at silly o clock every morning 5/6am to sit out there and watch the world ascwe sailed by. What brought a lump to my throat was as we pased villages the children playing by the river were waving and shouting to me 'thank uou thank you'
