(MENAFN - Daily News Egypt) The Ministry of Antiquities decided to postpone applying unified ticket of Luxor open-air museum and Karnak Temple to September instead of March, according to an official in Chamber of Tourism Companies and Agencies.

The ministry has developed the open-air museum of Karnak and decided to raise the ticket price to EGP 100 for foreign visitors, EGP 50 for foreign students, EGP 10 for Egyptian visitors, and EGP 5 for Egyptian students.

"We agreed with the Ministry of Antiquities to postpone the application of the unified ticket to September instead of March in light of the current decline of tourism in Egypt," the official said. Cultural tourism in Egypt represents about 3% of the total tourist flow in Egypt annually.

Chairman of Chamber of Tourism Companies and Agencies Adel Zaki said the cultural tourist's expenditure rate per night is higher than that of thresort tourist in the Red Sea. The cultural tourist spends more than 130 per night compared to 65 by the resort tourist.

The ministry's income declined from EGP 1.3bn in 2010 to less than EGP 350m in 2015, according to the official, prompting archaeological sites to increase their entry fees, as they are under pressure due to the decline of touristic flow over the past two years, Zaki said.

Member of Chamber of Tourism Companies and Agencies Tharwat Agami said occupancy in Luxor is still low and does not exceed 25% at present. Occupancy fell by the end of the mid-semester break during January.

Vice President of Floating Hotels Investors Association Abdel Rahman Al Anwar said floating hotels in Luxor and Aswan still suffer from lack of work. "The floating hotels recorded the highest decline in occupancy during the last five years, where more than 250 of 286 hotels at a halt," he said.

I am a bit confused by the above. :ni:

Think they mean the boats Brian, plus I hate to point it out but isn't there a little error in the subject title?

When prices are given out, you may probably see why there are no tourists. Wide variations.

Blame Keefy - there appears to be a limit to the length of the subject line, and it gets cropped automatically. Another 4 characters have now been cropped to make space for the "Re: ".

I agree that there is reference to the floating hotels, but still confused. :?

Like everything else here Brian, lack of tourists means price hike to get the most out of those that do come, never occurs to people put the prices down and you might attract more.
Don't know what is so confusing MT Brian printed the prices, fair enough there is a variation in what foreigners pay and Egyptians but why wouldn't there be?

I always think of the open air museum at Karnak as the separately ticketed area to the north of the first courtyard where the red and white temples, and much else, are situated. I have never heard of "unified ticket of Luxor open-air museum and Karnak Temple", but then I've not been on a cruise that included site visits. I don't have any problem with the different prices for students and Egyptians.

And why should there be, if you make a profit on low prices, it must mean you make a huge profit on ramped up prices.
This must be one of the only Countries that puts prices up during a recession instead of encouraging competition. Mind you on saying that trade is one way at the moment.
