easyJet from Hurghada

Post by Brian Yare »

I have just been looking at easyJet flights to and from Hurghada. One can travel, one way, to Geneva for from £37 one way.

This includes ONE cabin bag up to a maximum size of 56x45x25cm including handles and wheels, "but it’s likely that on some of our busy flights your bag may have to go in the hold". There is no weight limit on this bag.

From December to April there are flights between Geneva and Birmingham (and several other British airports) from about £20.

So now my plan is to book EgyptAir flying out on 9th November and returning to London Heathrow late April 2016 but probably making a brief return journey via Hurghada, Geneva and Birmingham in mid-winter.

Certainly worth further investigation, and easyJet, being a full airline, offers single tickets.

Cost of an overnight stay, if necessary, is from about £64.

I used to go HRG-Geneva-Gatwick as it was much cheaper and the timings worked. Then the prices rocketed. I'll have to take another look.

You can't do it the other way round without spending a night in Geneva, comfortably obliterating any saving.

Just looked at flights and found a brill price for March but there is only 1 hour 25 minutes between the flight landing from Hurghada to Geneva and another flight leaving for Gatwick, never having flown into Geneva does anyone know if it's easy to navigate the airport and do you think that's enough time between flights. I will only have hand baggage.

I've done it several times in the past snd it's a simple transit.

The time interval is adequate....although if the HRG-GENEVA flight was substantially delayed you could miss the connection. Easyjet have a good record on this route and I always had plenty of time..

My only concern would be that if you missed the connection you would be stranded and responsible for arranging and paying for another flight to the UK. If it is booked as a through fare the airline would be responsible but by booking the tickets seperately that is not the case. A great saving if you are prepared to risk it though :)

using the Geneva to Liverpool route gives us about 8 hours connection time each way, so plenty of time for delays. Just a little bit too long to sit in an airport and no way of leaving as Omar doesn't have a shengen visa. When I looked at it, it came out at about £120 each, but then adding on bags etc took it to nearer £400.

I always booked it as a through route with Easyjet, leaving them to pick up the tab in the event of missed connection. The booking website will not allow you to book flights where the connection gap is too short.

When I worked in Lausanne, albeit 20 years ago, I flew into and out of Geneva many times. It was a very easy and efficient airport back then. I have not been back since 1995, so have no idea of the current situation.

It was the easyJet cabin bag policy that attracted my attention more than the price, as I would not need a hold bag for a short trip home during the winter.

Definitely one to watch.
