UK GOV travel advise

Post by Brian Yare »

In today's version of the advise Siwa Oasis has been added from the list of places where we are not encouraged to go.

I never understood why it was allowed in the past. Much too close to Libya.

I can't recall when the Fayoum was last mentioned, but it is now also discouraged.

They added it because we are so fed up reading the same information, again and again be it relevant or not...

It maybe not relevant to those ensconced in Luxor, but it is of interest or concern to those with interests in travel to other parts of Egypt. While I know that this is a Luxor forum it is much more widely read than the Egypt4U one.

Yes but how many times do we need to be told by the FCO, or anyone else for that matter, same information month after month.

Have you been to Cairo ST, I would hardly expect it to be described as a white elephant. busy busy busy and when I went to Hughada the place was heaving. Judge Luxor as you like but other places are full of tourists.
Just as a matter if interest Luxor, Sharm, Hughada and cairo none of them are on the not to visit advise list.

I'll also add if one bothers to travel to other Cities that do-not cater for 'tourists, Suez, Port Said, Mansoura, Asyut ect you will find them very very busy. So please do-not think because we don't have your attendance here that Egypt is not busy busy busy....

Yes,I've been to Cairo Carrie..and it's an experience I don't wish to repeat!
12 hours on a train from Luxor, journeying through deserts(train got delayed!)

Big,filthy, dirty city!Smog enveloped me minute I arrived, pyramids were wasted by "touts and hawkers."

Cairo Tower?Never again!Ripped off for sub-standard food..and toilets looked and smelled as if they were somewhere that animals relieved themselves!

Utter shithole!Never again!

Over 900,000 British nationals visit Egypt every year and the majority return safe, face no disputes and report no trouble of any sort.
UK Gov.

Really! I wonder were they get their figures from, probably the Egyptian Tourist Board....
Ps: It's safer to visit Mexico than the USA...

I don't know the exact numbers but 900,000 in a year is about 2,500 per day. That amounts to about 14 flights per day. There were 8 flights today to Sharm and 4 to Hurghada. Add in the occasional flight to Cairo and Marsa and assume that most passengers are British nationals and you can get somewhere near to the headline figure.

Well at least our President is trying to do something about internal terrorist groups here, that's a lot more than any other Country as far as I can see
