You are right about that Choccy.

Unless you are minted, then a quick dash back to your homeland is going to be quite expensive and not quick.

While some may not like the package tourists in Luxor. Those same people never complained about the ease of access of getting back to their homeland on those same planes that brought the tourists in and out of the country.. :br

Moving to Luxor is going to need a lot more commitment than it did before...

Well, to be perfectly truthful, I was kind of shocked when I discovered this website, and found that there is such a sizable British expat community in Luxor. I would not have expected it. I know that many people go to the Caribbean, New Zealand, Spain, Canada, USA, Greece, and like, but Egypt? And Luxor at that?
I am an experienced traveler, but a newbie to the Middle East.

We [yes that is the collective one ST] miscreants more commonly known, [with emphasis on the common] as expats get where muck wouldn't. Most of us [me being the exception  ] are on the run due to our associations with the criminal fraternity [like train robbers and people with big noses] unwanted ex [but expensive] partners. People that are suffering from a one stitch too many sex change operations. Also a collection of unwanted split personalities from various corners of the planet. Unusually so for a relatively small city, we also have a large collection of folk that don't know why they are here in the first place as they constantly attempt to criticize the point of living here, but adamantly refuse to return to their own plot of land. They would like to get others houses and lives in order, while totally ignoring their own. This place, Luxor, would make for a wonderful TV sitcom. :up

Here's an article about the inaugural train journey from Kharga to Safaga in 1998

I might agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong!

pdmlynek. You will be suprised at the ex pat community in Luxor, on top of the ones that live here permanently there are those that live here 6 months of the year, (During the Winter, many cannot stand the daily heat of Summer that can average 40-45C") There are also some that have holiday homes here too, I know of 6 such people in my Village.

This may be of interest, especially to me as I'm aiming to fly with Egyptair so any discounts would be most welcome!

The article is of interest, but the previously announced discounts from EgyptAir were only off the full 'rack rate'. Travelling from London the discount appeared to me to be worthless as I can usually get more than 20% off that rack-rate.

EgyptAir have raised the lowest fare from London to Luxor to £420, and this appears to include only one piece of hold baggage on the domestic leg from Cairo. The non-stop flight seems to be completely discontinued. But the rack-rate (full price) for this return ticket is nearly £1200. I cannot see any discounts lower than that £420.

Seems you were not quick enough Brian, I got in at £380 return, pity they are not football tickets, could make a mint :wi .

Please remember Brian, they have a class system even in standard, which has more to do with the size of the plane they are sending over to London, on any set date.

Unless it is booked as two different tickets or a multi destination, two pieces will be allowed all the way. You just made me check my ticket Copenhagen - Luxor via Cairo, it is considered one journey, for each leg it is clearly printed: 2PC.

It looks like they have reinstated the non-stop flight in December.

I will as usual book at short notice, and look for the best price then.

Brian, where have you got that information from please?
To be honest, I've not seen anything so far about Dec Luxor direct flights being changed, but I have been expecting them to based on the fact that it has recently changed to a via Cairo flight.

I was checking Egyptair prices in Dec-Jan on Mondays and found the non-stop flight was at that lower price. The flights via Cairo were about £40 more expensive.

But these things change very quickly.

The URL I used was https://wftc2.e-travel.com/plnext/egypt ... 1861628305

Obviously you need to mind the wrap, ... I think L4u gets rid of that problem.

Unless things change drastically over the winter I can't imagine they'd put the direct flight back into action. However, I guess over Christmas and New Year it may well be a busier time so possibly viable. Very much a case of 'Watch this space' I think!
