Exchange rate against GBP

Post by Zooropa » Wed May 15, 2013 8:09 pm

Myself and another member were discussing the improving exchange rate the other day and whether it would reach 11LE in the UK.

It was, at the time touching 9.8.

Obviously the city got wind of our conversation and clearly were expecting a massive move because the price has dropped in the last week to around 9.5!

Brian, I think that multi million pound exchange deal we were planning should be put on ice!

Yes, im sure most regular travellers get their LE in Egypt, however if its rising here its rising there so we were just using the rate here as a barometer.

Ive heard a rumour that Sinbad's is the place to exchange your money, is this still the case?

Not quite sure where you are getting your quoted exchange rates from (think you must be using an exchange rate to buy in the UK) - using coinmill, which I find to be within 5 piaster of the actual exchange rate I get in Luxor is currently showing 10.6 whereas a couple of days ago it was showing 10.8 so as per usual the LE gains in value just prior to my visit and that trend will probably continue until about the 8th July and then crash to 12le to the £.

Ooh now do I change some in the UK now in case it drops again?
Or wait until I am there in December and hope it is higher than the Uk rate at the mo?

Almost certainly as the EGP has fallen by 16% against the dollar since December. Today's Guardian has a fairly lengthy article on the decline in the economy - http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/ma ... isis-1930s which ends with what to me seems a dire warning of coming civil unrest.
I might agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong!
