Egyptair

Post by hatusu » Tue Dec 25, 2012 9:19 am

In the 5 yrs the hotel has been open we'd have on average about 1 guest a year whose luggage went missing. In the past month we've had 3 guests who've had this problem - all Egyptair. Has anybody else noticed this increase in the problem? Any ideas on the reason for it?

Probably a none caring attitude, or staff.

I bet these people arrived via Cairo.
Every time I have gone through Cairo my luggage was not transferred, they do not read the labels on arrivals and just send everything to the luggage carousel for collection. The transfer time from arriving at Cairo to departing for Luxor is too short for you to be able to check that your bags have been transferred. The only way is to kick up a stink in Luxor and make sure a form is filled in to have your luggage put on the first flight from Cairo to Luxor the following day.
Going back the other way is easier and gives you more time to check that your luggage has been transferred.

But this should never happen! people employed by Egyptair should be professional people and have the know how on this situation, if they do not they should not be doing the job. If the truth was known, over the past year or so work standards have dropped dramatically all over Egypt know one seems to care anymore, if anything goes wrong Tarubna, and its over. Its like food if its bad, Tarubna, no such thing like sorry we will replace it for you, or let me take it back to the Chef, or we will change your bill for you to reflect. All this may be down to rising poverty though, I recently had to have the Ballat replaced on the terraces of my Villa due to it sinking, I was approached by a villager who wanted it to put in his home, even though it was all broken up.

Perhaps it's more due to the language difference? I know that English is the language of air traffic control and the like, but I don't suppose that having English reading skills is a requirement of low paid baggage handlers.

We have always collected our luggage and taken it ourselves to the internal flight desk. We always leave a longish gap between the flights to avoid any problems.

Seems to work for us. :D

This time when I left Luxor for Christmas, as usual my domestic flight was cancelled, to no surprise the next one was delayed, and in the last minute I was escorted to my international flight in Cairo. For the first time ever my bag did not make it, and I was grateful that it happened in this end of my journey. I went to the Scandinavian Airlines counter right next to the carousel in Copenhagen arrival hall and filled a report - it took a minute.

When going home in the rain by metro and bus, I regretted not having brought the two bags, Egyptair allows, because my luggage was, of course, delivered at my front door next day. I even got a track and trace number and received a very friendly call, when it was on its way from the airport.

PS: Attar's bread was still fresh!

No choice but to go via Cairo from Downunder, but in 10 trips never any trouble, and like peter, I always collect it myself and allow enough time for my connection.

We've travelled from Cyprus to Aswan and more recently 2 visits to Luxor over the past 4 years or so (our group consisted of parties of 6 people).

For the trip to Aswan we had to collect our bags in Cairo and go to the Domestic Terminal but since then for our other 2 Luxor arrivals we've arrived at Terminal 3 in Cairo and all of our checked through baggage has made it without mishap.

We were never informed however on checking in with Egyptair at Larnaca, that on arrival in Luxor - we had to go to the International Arrivals to collect our suitcases. Only because we had Ahmed from Petra Travel meeting us did we find out this information.
Michele,

Egypt is now so far away....

Its a little early to start jumping to conclusions after one month!

Lost luggage has happened (and will continue to happen) since the dawn of flight.

Having said that, of all the carriers ive used to travel anywhere not just Egypt ive found Egyptair to be a cut above most if not all the rest.
