Just Back...

Post by Zooropa » Sun Sep 30, 2012 1:11 am

Will post a full report later, just a quick point though, was very dissapointed to learn the pyramids are several hundred miles North of Luxor! My kids were also dissapointed that i couldnt find any sticks of rock to bring back. I must say, it would be a very good idea if there were other leisure activities for when you get "templed out". Crazy golf and a tower would be a good idea, maybe next year......

But did you manage to find a "kiss me quick, squeeze me slow"hat Z?
Mandatory attire for the beer bellied, stubble chinned, tatooed tourists that now appear to be visiting Luxor!
How much?Did you haggle?

Yeah shame Luxor was built so far away eh? :urm:

In my humble opinion, there is far more to do and see in Luxor than there is at the Pyramids. Shame that the thousand odd years of History of the area is limited to the short time that the pyramids were in.

I am hoping that you post Zooropa is tongue in cheek.

I've often thought same thing about Eurodisney Lisak!
Why build it in Paris where it always rains?
Why not put it in Spain, where the sun shines?
P.s just finished reading your blog...thoroughly enjoyed it.Well done!
Anyway,I digress!Am sure Mr Z's post is FIRMLY tongue in cheek,so waiting in anticipation for the "tourist"lowdown on Luxor!

"there is far more to do and see in Luxor than there is at the Pyramids" - surely that is because the pyramids are a single site, with no city around them? Oh, just remembered, they are situated in the Giza suburb of Cairo, Africa's largest city!

So, I could doubt your statement, Lisa!
I might agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong!

I am forever amazed throughout all my time in Egypt. that so many people read at least one fiction book while on holiday, however few bother to read a good guide book before they bother to arrive at this most fantastic place known as Luxor.

By the end of this week, I shall write up on here an 'off beat' info guide, which was requested by 'Luxormad' to aid time spent in Cairo. In the past, I and a couple of others, have written a few quite interesting essays on Luxor, e.g. The Merryland etc, it seems a pity that these are lost now in past pages. Could these not be grouped together as a 'sticky' or something to help new members?

OK, the pyramids are out in the desert, so there's nothing much to do there - but you could equally say the same about the Valley of the Kings or Queens.
But Cairo still has far more to offer the visitor than Luxor!

"But Cairo still has far more to offer the visitor than Luxor!"

That's a bit like saying that London has a lot more to offer the visitor than (say) Keswick. Which is undoubtedly true, but equally meaningless if you want to see something which doesn't involve a teeming capital city!
