The new bridge they are building at the side of the old bridge that crosses the River Nile. The part of the unfinished bridge you see on the far left of the photo leads up to what looks like a new Village they are building (similar to Tiba) with many flats already built (2nd photo)and foundations and frames of many others buildings waiting to be built, there is also thousands of lamp posts and dug out roads already in place.

April 2012 near Garagos/Hagaza

On the west bank of Luxor it seems that many of the sugarcane fields have now been turned into banana plantations or used for building land. On a drive out of Luxor on the east bank, in the areas of Garagos and Hagaza there were many acres of sugar cane still evident. As it was being harvested there were many carts, trailers, lorries, road and rail trains all busily taking the crop on to the next stage of it's journey and production. How many more years before these scenes will be something of the past?

Im not too sure on the arabic for cow/bull (or which way round it is) maybe someone on here knows:

Bugara (sp) sounds like I have spelt it, I think means cow. I hear them many times saying Gamoose(sp) which I think must be a Bull, not to be mixed up like I have before with a mosquito Namoose(sp)

I always thought yamoosa was the name for a water-buffalo of either sex, but as usual, when it comes to Arabic, I could be wrong!
I might agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong!

Keefy - next time you're out and about in Luxor perhaps you could post a photo of the new location of the International school.

The map is here http://www.ids-luxor.com/

That is your mission - should you choose to accept it ;)

Anyone know what this is? they seem to grow all over Luxor (so I presume all of Egypt) they have something similar to a fruit growning on them that are about the size an orange, but look more lemon shape, I pressed a few and they feel spongy and hollow inside.

Weird, I was looking through some photos today & came across an almost identical one to yours & was wondering what the fruit was. I was going to post it but you have saved me the trouble :)

Is it a persimmon/sharon Fruit tree? I know they are usually on sale in Egypt in September/October time. Looks similar with the ridge down the middle of the fruit.

I love that sign. I've not seen it before. Is it new? Does it have a partner sign of men jumping off the top deck onto the pontoon too?

Love the boat photo and more and more I'm liking boat photos in general. I really love all the bright colours and personalization that goes into a boat deliberately, accidentally and unintendedly especially the smaller wooden boats.

I'm lovin' these piccies! I can smell the Nile, hear the water lapping the bank, and feel the heat simmering off the fields as I look at them. I am homesick and I'm a'Commin'!
Not long now!

I couldn't resist, it is from a Venice vaporetto stop, but it made me think of the local ferry. I took the picture late one night to share it on Luxor4u...
