Duty Free question

Post by Bearded Brian » Sun Aug 28, 2011 5:28 pm

The next time I come to Luxor I'll probably be arriving via Hurghada - is the duty free shop there the same as in Luxor ie you can buy your duty free after landing. Also is there a duty Free shop in Hurghada similar to the one in Karnak?

Thanks

I think this site may be a little out of date so would not trust prices 100% but it does indicate that there is a Duty Free shop in Hurghada.

Having a week of complete R&R by the sea-side, may need to buy some fishing equipment which is nearly impossible in Luxor but I know a shop in Hurgharda. Will be flying back to the UK from Luxor.

Try asking on the Red Side. I'll bet they'd know. Even though I flew out from there during the Revolution, I wasn't thinking about such things, and I have never landed there.

There are three options for Duty Free in Hurghada that I know of BB but there may well be more. There is a shop at the airport, much like Luxor, but I have sometimes arrived and found it closed. However, you still get 48 hours to purchase in town. There is a shop on the main drag in Segala, quite near the Pasha Resort. It's upstairs above some gift shops but is clearly marked. There is also a new Duty Free in the new part of town called Mamsha, sometimes known as the Touristic District. Unless you are staying in this area though it can be a bit of a trek, so best to try the town centre one as your first port of call. Good Luck and Cheers!
