what is the price of a tourist visa please and do you still get it directly at the airport? Where is the best place to change money. I have some money left from our last visit to Egypt, will it still be ok to use it? It might even have mubarak on it?
Staying at old Sheraton, Aacti now i think, any good restaurants nearby?
Thanks
visit

Re: visit
As you enter the door at Arrivals Luxor airport, look directly across the room you will notice a few banks, these are official and will exchange your money at the correct rate, and no commission. You will also be able to purchase your Visa there, again at the official price. It will come as a rather large stamp, remove the back of it and stick it to an empty page in your passport. Do not purchase one from any rep you see in this area.
The only good restaurant that remains in the immediate area of the Sheraton is Maxim's, which has been there longer than I can ever remember, and has never failed to impress me.

Re: visit
Nefer21, on the matter of changing money the best place we have found is the currency exchange across from the Luxor Temple bus parking. Many banks have ATM's which are supposed to have currency exchange but we visited 6 at the beginning of January and not one was working. Went round to the currency exchange and very friendly helpful staff. You must have your passport available though.

Re: visit
We always take English cash with us and exchange it in either banks when open and not busy, or the currency exchange terminal inside the side entrance of the Winter palace by Aboudis book shop.
We were getting 61 to 62 LE to the English pound last week, which was as good as it gets at both.
You must insert notes of the same value each time.
The only issue we encounter was that the machine didn't like the notes with King Charles on them. But they were fine with Queen Elizabeth.
Not an issue for us, as we only had 2 of them. The rest were fine.
We successfully chaged about 200 UK pounds in total at the terminal.
No passport required for these transactions.
But a word of warning. If a power cut were to occur, that may cause a problem.
The touch screens on this terminal can be laggy, and as such take a bit of getting used to.
Press the screen firmly and hold your finger there for a second or 2 and wait for the next screen to appear.
Safest option may be to take BBLUX advise and use the currency exchange. But the terminal was handy for us.
They have one at our hotel, but I dare not use it, as the island was prone to having many power cuts, which only lasted a few seconds, but could ruin an otherwise good day, since no one seemed to have the foresight to put the machines and thier Internet router on a UPS.

Don't look back. That's not the direction you are travelling towards.

Re: visit
With regards BBLUX's advice I have always used the currency exchange and have done so for many years. Would get breakfast at the Amoun restuarant most days and then change English currency at the exchange. AS has also been mentioned I found out about the fact that you now have to show your passport on my last visit much to my dismay.
